Overview
The Tucson, Hyundai's smallest SUV till date, hit the roads in 2005. This vehicle can seat five and has some cosmetic changes for 2009 such as a more prominent grille and a slightly rehashed rear; an upgraded transmission management system and an optional torque converter. Built on the same platform as Hyundai's popular sedan, the Elantra, the Tucson's main competition is the Honda CR-V and the Ford Escape.
Power and performance
The 2009 Hyundai Tucson is available with a choice of two engines on its SE, GLS, and Limited trims. The base trim comes with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, engine with an output of 140 horsepower and 136 lb-ft. of torque. The upper-end models are given a 2.7 liter V6 that generates 173 horsepower and 178 lb-ft. of torque. These engines offer a choice of two transmissions - a shiftronic four-speed automatic and a five-speed manual. An optional, new-for-this-year, four-wheel drive feature allows the driver to transmit 50 percent of the power to the rear wheel, when required, at the switch of a button.
Body and styling
The 2009 Hyundai Tucson's interiors consist of an electro-chromatic mirror, which prevents the windows from the glare of headlights from oncoming traffic during night driving. Other standard features on the 2009 Tucson include hydraulic power assisted, rack and pinion steering wheel; an auto light control with switch and sensors that aid in deciding the usage of lights; a trip computer within the LCD monitor; cruise control; manual air conditioner; MP3 audio with in-dash CD; rear center armrest; center console; glove box; and shopping bag hook.
Sunroof; windshield de-icer; five-spoke, 16-inch alloy wheels with 215 section tires and new, optional 16-inch alloy wheel with 235 tires are some of the important features on the 2009 Hyundai Tucson's exteriors.
